Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Village Tashan in Yuqian, Lin'an, Zhejiang. The Yuqian Fm was named by Xu Jie (S. C. Hsü) (1987).

Synonym: (于潜组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is composed of yellowish gray, brownish green shale, siltstone and sandstone. In the type area, the Yuqian is 1264 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the marl of the Huangnigang Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the dark gray mudstone of the Yankou Fm

Regional extent

The Yuqian Fm is restricted to Lin'an and Tonglu in the northern part of the Zhejiang-Anhui basin (Rong Jiayu et al., 1987)

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit yields a low-diversity graptolite fauna characterized by Dicellograptus complexus, Appendispinograptus leptothecalis, Pseudoclimacograptus anhuiensis and Paraorthograptus (Yang Daquan, 1983). Yang Shipu (1986) reported the trace fossils Granularis yuqianensis and Helminthopsis tunluensis from the Yuqian Fm in Tonglu.
